Optimization of a three-dimensional hybrid system combining a floating breakwater and a wave energy converter array

Combining wave energy converters (WECs) with a floating breakwater provides potential approach to help develop commercial-scale power operations. This paper aims design and optimize three-dimensional integrated WEC array by developing numerical model of multi-floating-body coupled system based on flow theory viscous correction in the frequency domain. By analyzing surface elevations around breakwater, size was optimized optimal installation locations WECs were determined. Under condition constraints six degrees-of-freedom motion, interactions between analyzed. Subsequently, number distance maximize conversion performance hybrid system. Results show that focusing areas appear more frequently near breakwater. These significantly improve power, thus better can be achieved when are placed close The vertical forces increase due presence WECs, however horizontal decreased. findings this provide guidance WEC-breakwater practical engineering applications.
